Should I Take Aromatase Inhibitors for Breast Cancer?
Reducing the amount of estrogen circulating in the body slows down the growth of estrogen-dependent breast cancer. When breast cancer needs the hormone estrogen to grow, it’s called estrogen-receptor positive (ER+) breast cancer. Aromasin isn’t FDA-approved to treat ER+ breast cancer for longer than 5 years. Early breast cancer occurs only in the breast, while advanced breast cancer has spread outside the breast. In a study of advanced breast cancer, 13% of women who took Aromasin and 13% of women who took megestrol (another cancer treatment) reported having body aches and pains. Aromasin and letrozole both contain drugs from the same class called aromatase inhibitors.
They were testing to find aromatase inhibitors that reduced estrogen without dangerous side effects, and found selenium to be an effective candidate for the job (source). For example, a study at Hanyang University in Korea studied zinc-deficient rats after improving their zinc levels to healthy norms (source). They found the increased zinc directly corresponded with reduced aromatase, and a subsequent increase in bio-available testosterone. Arimidex is considered an estrogen blocker because it decreases the amount of the hormone estrogen in your body. It isn’t a steroid drug or a type of chemotherapy (traditional drugs used to treat cancer). Arimidex is sometimes taken to lower estrogen levels that are high due to anabolic steroid use.

- While aromatase inhibitors can be an effective part of overall treatment, they’re not for everyone.
- Tamoxifen is usually prescribed as a pill taken once a day by mouth.
- ClinicalTrials.gov and CENTRAL registers were also searched to identify grey literature citations.
- (For more about off-label uses, please see the “Aromasin for breast cancer” section above.) So if you’re still menstruating and are taking Aromasin, you should use effective birth control during treatment and for 1 month after your last dose.
- People with existing liver problems might see a worsening of the condition when using Anastrozole due to inflammation.
(An active ingredient is what makes a drug work.) It belongs to a group of drugs called aromatase inhibitors. You’ll meet with your cancer doctor, called an oncologist, regularly for follow-up visits while you’re taking hormone therapy for breast cancer. Your oncologist will ask about any side effects you’re experiencing. One approach to hormone therapy is to stop the hormones from attaching to the receptors on the cancer cells. When the hormones can’t access the cancer cells, the cancer’s growth may slow and the cells may die. However, there’s not enough research to conclude that breast cancer patients can replace aromatase inhibitors with grape seed extract or other dietary choices, cautions Proctor.
Tamoxifen (Sopharma) – 30 tabs (10mg/tab)
Breast cancers that lack ERs are called ER negative, and if they lack both ER and PR they may be called HR negative. Whether you’re a natural athlete or an enhanced athlete, if you want to get the best results and build hard dense muscle, you should understand a process known as aromatization, and how to gain control of it. The survival benefit in this study was interpreted cautiously, as it was evident only in patients who received the lower, 1 mg dose. Moreover, no significant improvements in any other efficacy end point were noted, and the survival advantage was evident in only one of the two studies that were combined for publication. There are also some rare (1 in 10,000 patients) adverse reactions, and they may include blisters, allergic reactions, liver inflammation, and bone loss.
Hormone therapy for breast cancer
Estrogen is a hormone that can interfere with the production of testosterone, which is responsible for muscle growth. By blocking estrogen, Arimidrol helps in increasing testosterone levels, which in turn helps in building muscle. As men age, Masteron 100 mg Multi Pharm they may experience a decline in testosterone levels, which can lead to a variety of symptoms such as decreased sex drive, fatigue, and decreased muscle mass.
