The Community's Shop
The Community Center of Northern Westchester is excited to announce our new venture – the Community Shop in downtown Katonah.
For over 15 years the Community Center has sent a small fraction of our clothing donations to consignment shops. During that time period we generated over $100,000 to support the Center’s mission without diminishing the clothing support provided in the Center’s Boutique. Our primary concern is always to ensure that families who turn to us for help will find good quality clothing to meet their needs, at no cost. Clothing which would previously have been consigned will now be available to all for “sale” for a suggested donation at our new volunteer run Community Shop.
Proceeds from the Community Shop will be used to fund Center services to support our neighbors, helping us to keep our food pantry stocked, our programs running and our doors wide open to all who need our help.
The Shop will also enable our “Makers,” students of our sewing and design courses, to showcase and market their handmade products, while supporting their entrepreneurial skills and helping them to earn an income. For others, our Shop will provide retail skills training to improve their employment opportunities. It also affords greater opportunities for the community to get involved by volunteering at the Shop.
